This book contains forty Hadiths (traditions of Prophet Muhammad) which were collected by Imam An-Nawawi. He selected these forty Hadiths as they are profound and comprehensive, summarizing the teachings of Islam and the character of the Prophet. The Hadiths deal with the basic rules of Islam; the subsidiary matters of religion; Jihad in the way of God; asceticism; Islamic etiquettes and noble manners; and sermons. The majority of these Hadiths are collected in the most authentic books of Hadith, Sahih Al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim.
Imam An-Nawawi was born in Muharram 631 AH (October 1233 CE) in Nawa near Damascus and died there in Rajab 676 AH (December 1277 CE). During his short life, he wrote a large number of books on different subjects covering many Islamic sciences such as Hadith, Qur’anic sciences, Fiqh, Fatwa, and languages. His works have been widely recognized as a valuable treasure of Islamic knowledge.
